The lovely Valentino is designing costumes for the New York City Ballet. After some amazing collaborations in the past (the Mulleavy sisters anyone?) it’s going to be so interesting to see what he comes up with. We can be sure every piece will be beautifully finished with perfect detailing. But more importantly, will there be a Valentino-red tutu?

It’s summer in Ireland and it’s actually sunny so today’s ‘Look of the Day’ is going to take advantage of it! And yes, I’m still working with SS’12 because, well, it is summer 2012. Is there anything more perfect for those evenings after you’ve spent the day sunbathing than this Oscar de la Renta? You know the feeling, after you’ve showered all the suncream (and sand if you brave the beach!) and you’re all glow-y and tanned? You want something loose from your body, light, that can breath. Even with flat, tan leather sandles - or royal blue, if you’re into colour blocking - this would look amazing. The colour, the embellishment, the movement … perfect *le sigh*

So, since I’ve last seen you I’ve started and finished a thesis, which feels a lot less impressive than it sounds! Doing a BA in Journalism means I could do a series of 5 features instead of doing the crazy-long academic thesis *phew*. So I did mine on the Irish fashion industry, which turned out to be seriously eye-opening. The more I learned about the talented people working to build up a strong industry here, the more excited I became about the future of Irish fashion!
So apparently, doing a thesis takes up a LOT of time … whoda thunk it? And I got so knocked off my blogging routine that I’m only making a return to it now. Sorry guys!!! But my being back is coinciding with the first real, sunny Irish summer since ra-ra skirts were in fashion, which is nice. Eeather like this calls for one thing, and one thing only ….

Do you remember the cape that blew everyone else out of the water at the Oscars? When Gwynnie stepped out in the flawless white dress and cape it was the first glimpse of the Tom Ford AW collection that the world got - and we wanted more!!! But alas it seems the line was presented to a select few in a private showing so we were left waiting … and waiting, until now. Today Tom Ford posted a video of his entire collection on his website and it is every bit as captivating as we thought it would be. In this world of super-fast fashion I think I can safely say it was worth the wait.
A little Irish treat for my ‘Look of the Day’. This is my favourite look from Emma Manley’s SS’12 collection. I want the cape so badly!! Like the entire collection, it’s tough but soft and completely wearable. This collection was inspired by Bauhuas art and that’s clear in the bold, strong shapes and colours. I like this soft grey though, not only is it perfect all year ‘round but it makes the outfit timeless. Basically, this is top of my SS wishlist - and it’s by an Irish designer so it’s win-win!

We all know Karl Lagerfeld as the gloved, ponytailed, sometimes controversial man at the helm of one of the most famous fashion houses of all time. We know he lost a load of weight to fit into Hedi Slimane suits (but now that he’s returned to YSL who knows what’ll happen!). We know he said Adele was ‘a little too fat’ and sparked quite a lot of anger, which he seemed blithely unaware of. We also know he can imagine some of the most amazing show productions ever seen. You see why it’s hard to imagine him grocery shopping…
Have you seen this editorial? It’s in the new issue of Interview magazine and I’m really struggling to see the artistic side to it. It’s called ‘Strict Institution’, shot by Steven Klein and features Crystal Renn as a mental patient being seriously mistreated by nurse Karolina Kurkova.
